Ilhéus – A lot of cocoa beach and culture

Immortalized in novels by Jorge Amado, Ilhéus is located on the coast of the state of Bahia, on the well-known Costa do Cacau.

The city has a block dedicated to the writer, with a circuit about his life and his childhood home, which today is called Casa de Cultura Jorge Amado, with photos, videos and clothes. In addition, there is the Vesúvio bar, present in the work Gabriela Cravo e Canela and the Cabaret Bataclan. The city also offers beaches, cocoa farms, and a large craft market.

Its beaches are the perfect destination for tourists who want to rest or surf. Praia Back Door is always the main choice of surfers, Praia do Jairi is calm and with preserved nature, Praia Canabrava is home to the large luxury resorts. The beaches are on the North Coast and the South Coast.

Getting to know a cocoa farm is one of the great attractions of this destination.

Ilhéus can be accessed by car, bus, plane and ship. The local airport receives daily flights, and at the airport it is possible to rent cars to move around the city.

The bus station is about 3.5 km from the center and buses leave from the main cities to the destination. By car, for those coming from the South, just take the BR 101 to Itabuna and, later, the BR 415 towards the city. In addition, MSC and Costa Cruises offer routes that provide access to Ilhéus.
